Tilcara, Purmamarca, Iruya 4 Days/3 Nights Departures: All year round.
Day 1 – San Salvador de Jujuy Upon arrival at "Horacio Guzman" airport, transfer to hotel. After check in, city tour and excursion to La Ciénaga, Las Maderas and Los Alisos Dams with lunch included. Accommodation.
Day 2 – San Salvador de Jujuy / Tilcara After breakfast, we drive into the Quebrada de Humahuaca, sightseeing several small peasant towns before arriving at Tilcara Village where we lodge at hotel Humahuaca Gorge is a narrow and deep geological fault that gains height northwards along 170 km, starting at 1300 meters and reaching 3000 meters. The breathtaking scenery of its multicolored hills contrasting with its deep blue sky is as fantastic as its archaeology, anthropology and architectural richness. It hosts a myriad of small towns where aboriginal and colonial cultures have mixed over hundreds of years: Tumbaya, Purmamarca, Maimará, which we visit on our way. Countless archaeological sites remain next to churches, parks and narrow cobbled streets from the first centuries of the Spanish conquest. Towns seem to have aimed at conserving their ancient traditions and rich past, as is evidenced in the colorful markets, old colonial mansions and neat mud and straw huts where people still live. After check in, enjoy lunch. Afternoon visit to local ruins of the "Pucará de Tilcara" and the Devil’s Throat. Accommodation.
Day 3 – Humahuaca gorge After breakfast, we continue our way northwards along the Humahuaca Gorge, up to its end at the village of Iruya, where we will arrive for lunch. At the gate of the mountain range leading to La Puna, this small, hidden town provides the very off-the-beaten-track feeling. Almost hanging from the mountain, Iruya boasts the silent magnificence of ancient Indian culture. On the way back to Tilcara, visit Uquía and Huacalera towns. Return to Tilcara. Accommodation.
Day 4 – Tilcara / San Salvador de Jujuy After breakfast, return to San Salvador de Jujuy. According to flight departure, you can take an optional excursion in the area (Yala-Termas de Reyes lagoons, San Pedro and Ledema). Lunch and transfer to local airport.
