Calchaquíes Valleys

Day 1 - Salta

Reception at El Aybal Airport in Salta and departure for a tour around the Calchaqui Valleys, a natural treasure located in one of the most beautiful landscapes of the country. Passing through Chicoana, a small village devoted to tobacco plantations, we will drive along the Cuesta del Obispo, called the Condor’s home, reaching 3.720 m. above sea level, with a colorful view of the valleys up to the Enchanted Valley where it’s still possible to discover the footprints of the hidrosaurius and the pre-Hispanic pictographs. We continue to the "recta del Tin-Tin" passing through Los Cardones National Park; there is such an abundance of this giant cactus that this area has been named National Park. Then we will follow the route to San José de Cachi at the foot of the white snow-covered peak of Cachi. with a wonderful view of the surroundings. Visit to the archaeological museum and the church in the ancient town, founded in the XVII century. Passing Seclantas, we finally arrive at Molinos. Lunch en route. Accommodation at Molinos, a charming inn built in the past century facing the old church nearby the old museum.

 

Day 2 - Los Molinos / Salta

Continental breakfast. Departure for Cafayate driving along mountain roads passing by San Carlos, El Barrial and Animana, small typical villages devoted to peppermint farming. The climate is exceptionally mild and the valleys abound in lush tropical vegetation. Arrival in Cafayate, located 1.700 m. above sea level. This town is one of those peaceful, colonial-type settlements that never fails to evoke the feeling of a time long past. Its vineyards produce the most renowned wines. Visit to a wine cellar. The Panoramic view of the valleys continues with the Quebrada de las Conchas (gorge) with colorful designs carved in the hills. Proceeding to Cabra Corral Dam, we arrive in Salta. Lunch en route. Accommodation at Salta Hotel.

 

Day 3 - Salta

Continental breakfast. Early departure for a drive along the historic Humahuaca Gorge, passing Leon, Volcan, Tumbaya, Purmamarca and its seven colored mountain, Tilcara with its archaeological museum and the old Indian fortress, Pucara, and Uquia Church, finally arriving at Humahuaca. Lunch. Visit to the northern Carnival Museum, the Handicraft fair and Belgrano’s Belvedere. Return to Salta. Accommodation.

 

Day 4 - Salta

Continental breakfast. Transfer to local airport.
