Day 1 - Salta

Reception and transfer to the hotel. Accommodation at hotel. In the afternoon city tour of Salta, visiting the Cathedral, basilical style church with 3 naves of outstanding polychrome and gold ornaments. The place where the images of Jesus Christ and the Virgin are kept. Visit the San Francisco Church, San Bernardo Convent, where there are magnificent views of the city and outskirts. Return to hotel. Dinner.

 

Day 2 - Salta / San Antonio de los Cobres

Departure by the tourist Tren a las Nubes (Train to the Clouds) to Viaducto La Polvorilla (The Polvorilla Viaduct), 214 km. away at 4.200 meters at sea level, admiring the changing colors of the sharp rocks. The highest spot of this trip is the amazing crossing of the viaduct suspended on the abyss on fabulous pillars. Accommodation at an inn in San Antonio de los Cobres, a very old town of low constructions located next to the river of the same name. Dinner.

 

Day 3 - San Antonio de los Cobres / San Pedro de Atacama

Continental breakfast. Departure to San Pedro de Atacama, passing by the Paso Sico frontier crossing; Toconao, a small village and oasis where different kinds of fruits grow. Finally, after bordering the Salar de Atacama (Atacama Salt Deposit), the largest salt flat in Chile, where pink flamingoes can be seen, we arrive in San Pedro de Atacama. Accommodation at San Pedro de Atacama Inn. Lunch en route.

 

Day 4 - San Pedro de Atacama

Continental breakfast. Early departure by special vehicles to visit the Tatio Geyser (4.300 m. above sea level), a geothermic field surrounded by high summits, where violent water-spouts spring up from various different "eyes" at sunrise, and the coloring of the soil and sky stands out among the steam columns under the first sunbeams. In the afternoon, tour to the Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) an outstandingly beautiful geological formation, mounds with incrustations that look like broken glass. Continue along the old rubble road to Calama. Visit to this small depression of salt soil surrounded by amazing hills. Lunch en route. Return to hotel.

 

Day 5 - San Pedro de Atacama / San Salvador de Jujuy

Continental breakfast. Departure from San Pedro de Atacama. Passing by Susques, of colonial origins, we get into the Quebrada Mal Paso (Mal Paso Gorge). We finally arrive at Salinas Blancas. This place of striking beauty due to the height of its location, shows a magnificent contrast between the intense blue sky and the red soil. Here, the Cuesta de Lipan starts and we finally arrive into the plateau at 4.170 m. above sea level. From here, we will be able to see the salt plains that reflect the blue sky, which makes them look like an enormous sea surrounded by hills. Proceed to Purmamarca - the town that best preserves its colonial characteristics, embedded in the bottom of Los Siete Colores Hill; lunch en route. Arrival in Jujuy. Accommodation at hotel.

 

Day 6 - San Salvador de Jujuy

Continental breakfast. Transfer to the airport.
