Comodoro - El Calafate 6 days

Located on the sea coast of Chubut province is the place where the wonderful spectacle of the magellanic penguin's organised life can be observed. This circuit includes a full day visit to Bahia Camarones and Cabo Dos Bahias, two of the biggest rookeries in the country, together with the possibility to meet the spectacular Patagonic plateau and its Petrified woods.

 

Day 1 - Buenos Aires / Comodoro Rivadavia

Reception at Comodoro Rivadavia local airport. Transfer to Austral Hotel. Accommodation and departure on an excursion to "Jose Ormachea" petrified woods, in the center of the patagonic plateau. This petrified wood discovered in 1927 gathers a group of 65 million years old huge fossilized trunks. On our way, we will pass through "Valle lunar" (Moon Valley) and Colorado hill. Luncheon (roasted lamb) in the woods. Return to the hotel.

 

Day 2 - Comodoro Rivadavia

Breakfast. Early departure to Camarones village, located 290 Kms. north from Comodoro Rivadavia on the homonymous bay. It is situated by the Atlantic Ocean shore which gives it a particular landscape. On our way, we can watch the local fauna which includes, guanacos, ñandues, patagonic hare, european hare, martinetas, etc. Arrival at Cabo Dos Bahias, settlement for Penguins' colony, which gathers more than a million of them, together with the two hair sea lions rookery (the only one on the coast). Luncheon. Visit to a small village where seaweeds are collected and precessed. The sea landscape accompanies us as we return to the hotel bordering the sea shore.

 

Day 3 - Comodoro Rivadavia / Río Gallegos

Breakfast. Transfer to local airport to board flight to Río Gallegos. Reception and transfer by regular line bus to El Calafate. Accommodation.

 

Day 4 - El Calafate

Continental breakfast. Full day lake trip to see Upsala Glacier and Onelli bay, cruising among icebergs that have broken off from the glacier. This excursion is available from September to April in regular basis and from July to September subject to weather conditions and with a minimum of participants.

 

Day 5 - El Calafate

Continental breakfast. Overland trip to Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the world’s largest active continental glaciers. UNESCO has declared it Universal Patrimony of Humanity.

 

Day 6 - El Calafate

Continental breakfast. Transfer by bus to Río Gallegos airport or departure for optional tours: Torres del Paine, Fitz Roy or Helsingfors.
